This devotional is a wonderful book for any woman! My sister had received it from a friend and I started reading it. Immediately I bought myself a copy. There is a page for every day of the year to read which contains a Bible verse followed by a short message, a prayer and a quotation. Each week's readings are also a different theme and at the end of that week, there are questions to think about and discuss with a friend, if you wish. I love this book because you can either read it every day or, if you forget, pick it up when you need a quick inspirational message. It only takes a couple minutes to read each day's message which is nice for anyone who has little free time but would still like to read from a devotional. This book makes the perfect gift for a friend or family member! I have already given it to a friend who enjoyed it as much as I did. I highly recommend this devotional!

I bought this devotional book at a local christian book store back in December. I was looking for something to give structure to my daily devotional routine. When I saw the name of this selection I was interested because I have a small group of women that I meet with often to share experiences and encourage one another in our walk with God.I was so impressed by the format and content of this devotional, I talked the members of my group into each buying one. We ordered them from Amazon. While we were waiting for them to arrive I started typing the daily message into an email and sending it to them so we would not get behind.It has been an awesome experience that has now connected 9 women over 3 states. One of these women has even started sharing the devotionals with a group where she lives so the encouragement is now much farther reaching.Thank you to these two wonderful authors who poured themselves out to write such an inspirational collection of daily devotional readings and discussion questions to encourage faith and inspire growing frienships. It is a great blessing to myself, my group and hopefully many more women to come.

I bought 2 of these devotionals to complete with my girlfriend. The daily devotionals were shallow and were no different from the conversations that we normally have. It would be better if there were thought-provoking questions provided every day. I'm sad that I missed the window to return the books.

I enjoy the variety of reflections on different subjects throughout this book. I like the quotes used, too.

I use daily as part of my morning devotional. Love the way the book is geared towards women. I feel great each time I turn a page and look at the beautiful pictures. Speaks to my spirit. I am happy I found this book. I would recommend to women of all ages.

Should be required reading in college or for any educated person as it highlights the "lost history" of the Golden Age of Islam around a thousand years ago when the House of Wisdom in Baghdad was an early think tank, pulling together and preserving knowledge from India to Greece and sharing brainpower among scientists and intellectuals adding its own substantial advances in math, astronomy, medicine, geography, etc. a long period spanning centuries that is too important to be forgotten.

Learned soooo much from this book, a very easy read!

Wonderful book! I enjoyed the fictional stories at the beginning of each chapter, connectingthe present to past. As the author makes clear in the introduction, there are several schools of thought regarding the Islamic civilization, past and present status, and his goal is not to take a position in such debates, but "to adhere to established fact but bring the most important characters and events to life".

Love the historic bits; not so crazy about the modern stories. But for an inexpensive student introduction to the topic it can't be beat.

Very well written and easily accessible. Walks through a great deal of history. Author organizes, empires, innovations and chronology beautifully to make it understandable and interesting

I absolutely love this book. The way the writer includes modern day situations into the story and flows right into the history of the subject being discussed....absolutely amazing. Ive been muslim almost 4 years and Ive read John L. Esposito's 900 pg. book on Islamic history but this book still informed me of subjects and people that I had no idea about. This book is good for all levels of readers and hopefully gives you inspiration and pride that it gave me. This book could do alot for dawah as well to show non-muslims the peace and harmony that used to exist in a multi-religious community. It would also be a good tool to remind modern society of the contributions muslims and Islam gave us.

My main purpose to reading this book was to understand the flow of Knowledge over centuries from one culture to another. I obviously knew that Greek, Persian, Indian, Chinese, and Egyptian were the old civilizations and places of learning and knowledge. I also knew that from about 1500 it was the Europeans who due to the progression of their civilization took the mantle. I wanted to know what happened in between. The book does a great job answering this question.

The West and the world owe the Islamic world much: in medicine, ethics, metaphysics, mathematics, astronomy, poetry, architecture, literature and music Islam has had a profound influence. Just how deep the connections are, and how great the debt owed is the basis for Morgan's book.After presenting a brief history of the first centuries of Islam, the richness, depth, breadth and variety of Islamic thought is presented, convincingly arguing that Muslim philosophers and scientists are inheiritors of the Greco-Roman world as much (if not more than) Europe, and that these thinkers pushed intellectual boundaries to the benefit of everyone. These details make the book, as the connections between 9th and 10th century Islam and the present are profound.However, Morgan has a tendency to dramatize and personify history, which I though detracted from the effectiveness of his point. To write about the internal thoughts of ibn Sina would be fine for fiction, but have no place in a historical text. Similarly, in an effort to make the connections between past and present clearer, each chapter begins with a character in the present reflecting on or wrestling with the legacy of the Islamic past. Because of this, I almost gave it three stars - but the importance and impact of the Islamic past is so important and relevant that I forgave him a star.With this historical caveat, it is a remarkable read, and one that I highly recommend.

I've now read this book 3-4 times. It's a pretty good book and Roth is a great writer, although, a couple of things set me on edge: Roth's insistent preaching about the metric system and determination that he would only use it. Sorry, I guess I'm an ugly and ignorant American, because I found it jarring and it literally ripped me out of the story into annoyance at this. When I was in school, Jimmy Carter tried to change the US to metric and we didn't like it OR accept the notion. Forcing change isn't the answer. Anyway, I was just reading this again and it hit me, smack in the face.Anyway, otherwise, Hal Roth is a good writer and really brings you into his story.

Excellent sailing travelogue, although I think the ports they visited are more crowded now.

He has been a sailor all of his life until he sold his Westsail. He enjoys reading sea stories. He was familiar with Hal Roth who wrote for Sail magazine.

The book details his circumnavigation east to west. It has lots of maps and picures to accompany the well written text. Highly recommended

Just finished the book. It's a very good account of a small sailboat and it's trip around the world. A good mix of sailing technique, people they meet and all the joys and problems of a husband and wife taking 4 years to go 30,786 miles.

My husband is a chemist and he insisted on having this book. He has it in his hands all the time.

All of these books titled "Problems and Solutions on (subject): Major American Universities Ph.D. Qualifying Questions and Solutions" are invaluable tools for a physics graduate student, in my experience.One criticism: The index for this particular book is nonexistent. I am writing my own in my copy of the book.If you are a student in physics, I suggest that you get your hands on these books.

I found this book to be quite useful in my physics thermodynamics course. Probably shouldn't have sold it but you can't keep everything! Like most of the books in this series it lacks a proper index

The book is very useful and supportive

If you're a grad student, you'll probably use this book twice: Once when studying for your qualifying exams, then again when you're writing problems for your courses to prepare future students for their qualifying exams. There are many exercises, the first part focusing on Thermodynamics, and the second on statistical physics. Beware, however, as not all solutions are correct. As with any book, work out the problem yourself, then compare, and never take the word of a solution manual. On the whole, however, there tend to be many repetitive problems.

Although I do not attend one of the schools from which these questions were taken, I found it an excellent review tool nonetheless. It has a great variety of problems, and the solutions include all major steps for the most part. Sometimes steps are skipped, but if this book is used to supplement any standard text on the subject it can be a very powerful and useful tool.

The books in this series are a valuable resource for studying for PhD screening/comprehensive exams. Working through practice problems is, in my opinion, the best way to prepare for these tests. This book covers a wide range of topics, so you can find the section on whatever your thermodynamic weakness is and really work it out. Not every equation in the solutions is motivated, but working through and puzzling over the derivations is in itself extremely helpful.

Hurrah, this is an example book, yeah. Unfortunately, it includes mostly stat mechanics problems and only a dozen or two about stat thermo. Most of the problems are quite tuff. “A training book for American universities”. That must be old Berkeley exams or something, sorting out the top 1% of the students. It’s an example book, alright, but it’s not worse purchasing it. Just my opinion.

This was a GREAT book on the Holocaust. I enjoy studying history and I also have spent time in Poland. This book was very helpful for me to understand all the issues of the Holocaust. There were many facts about the Holocaust I did not know and this book help me understand wht did happen during the 12 year period.If you enjoy history, and want to understand the Holocaust, then this book is a MUST for your book shelf.

There are a few books out there that can be used to teach children about the Shoah and this is one of them. It teaches children about a subject that is often hard to teach with reaching a right balance of information and gentleness (for young children)

Excellent resource for teaching about the Holocaust! This gives a thorough, accurate account of this tragic event and the reader hears from those who experienced it firsthand.

A great book full of knowledge and history. I bought this for my Grandchildren.

This is a great book with concise articles about important topics within the study of the Holocaust. We supplemented it with lots of other materials including the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and Yad Vashem websites.

Purchased this for my nephew's fourth grade class, as enrichment for his history lessons. I feel it summarizes WWII with sufficient background and information. Details of the holocaust are thorough without being too graphic for older children.
