I am grateful for Dr. Weil for his just anger at the denial of aging, so prevalent in America. He excoriates the popular face-lifting, whose only purpose is to hide the age of person, and whose result is often a "plastic" immobile face. Dr. Weil also explains why young people run away from the old and the elderly--they are terrified of their own future fate, visible in the faces and bodies of the older people. I wish the good doctor talked more about the isolation of the aging, which is the elephant not many talk about. Especially I wish he talked about the isolation of aging women. While aging men succeed in dating younger women, aging women often fail to attract men who often measure a woman's attractiveness only by her external appearance.

Andrew Weil's book on "Healthy Aging" helped me to understand better how I can contribute towards my own aging process through simple accessible easy lifestyle changes while providing the science behind each recommendation. He made me understand that we are not slaves to our genes, but by changing our environment, through lifestyle changes, we can influence the genes that life served us. This to say that we can change some aspects of our make-up to push us towards a place of aging more gracefully and healthily. Hence, our destiny is in our own hands! We owe it to no one but ourselves to be happy, healthy and wealthy!

If you are over 50 and you haven't read this book you should.Dr. Weil appears to be spiritual not religious so keep that in mind as you read. He comments quite a bit on societies perception of aging. Hes decidedly NOT "anti-aging" and appears to believe that we should embrace aging and I fully agree. He addresses our American cultures aversion to getting old while many other cultures hold their aged in much higher reverence.Definitely worth a read. I don't agree with some of the things he says, but overall I consider Dr. Weil to be my health and fitness Guru.

I love Andrew Weil's website and I think very highly of his emphasis on healthy eating and nutrition, so I decided to pick up a couple of his books. This one is "just what the doctor ordered." The first half of the book is mainly devoted to theories about how to slow down the aging process. He discusses stem cell research and how embryonic stem cells might be able to grow new tissues and new organs, but it doesn't slow down the aging process. He also warns that multiplying new cells might also increase the risk for cancer.Weil also states that there is no evidence that eating fruits and vegetables and yogurt extend the length of life as much as it helps the quality of the life that we have. He also discusses HGH and mentions the bad side effects along with good news like increased muscle tone, better sex drive, etc. But none of these things amounts to a fountain of youth.He also mentions botox injections and restricted calorie diets and other anti-aging medicines, but none are proven to help. He finally suggests that we age gracefully by taking care of the body that we have the best that we can. He recommends the anti-inflammatory diet, which is heavy on fruits and vegetables (especially those with anti-oxidant properties), omega 3's (walnuts and salmon), white tea and green tea, and grains and legumes. Weil also recommends exercise (30 minutes a day) eight hours of sleep, relaxation/meditation, etc.But my favorite chapter in the book is when he talks about the value of aging. He notes that cheese is often better when it is aged, as is wine, whiskey, and even trees are beautiful when they are older. In the same way, people often are wiser and more beautiful on the inside, and so we shouldn't be so afraid of aging, even though there is good and bad associated with it.This is a very good book, and I highly recommend it.

On of the most informative books on mindful aging. Dr. Weil's philosophy of life is the backdrop for his sound, logical recommendations on how to age "successfully." Most folks give little thought to aging until it is too late and they are overweight and plagued with health challenges. This book will change one's thinking and gives specific ways to reverse these problems. Although this book was published 10 years ago, the information was cutting edge at the time. It is all very relevant. I keep it near my TV and read sections during the commercials. It plants kernels of wisdom each day.The book is a super value! It has the information to change the senior years of your life!!!

Lots of useful information in this book and an easy read. One does not have to read from front to back; rather one can pick different chapters depending on current interests.

Dr. Andrew Weil's book is a good source of level headed and knowledgeable advice. He cuts through a lot of the different beliefs floating around about what vitamins and supplements are good to take with science--of all things. I found that very helpful. I also enjoyed how he discusses a variety of areas that contribute to healthy aging, spiritual as well as physical. The entire book is permeated by the notion that there is such as thing as healthy aging, which you can influence although life does throw many of us some serious curves. And that aging is not a crime, but can be experienced as the coming to fullness of a fine wine!! If you are thinking of botox, read this first!

My sons and daughter play lacrosse. I never heard of the sport before moving to New England. I bought this book in the hopes that if I understood it more, maybe I would have a better attitude towards the sport.This book was only sort of informative. The book is also old - from 2005, and this sport at all levels has developed passed what was covered. I would have preferred the book be organized or "rotated" differently because it was hard to follow. The game rules really needed a grid-comparison between the various youth-levels and by gender. There are many useless statements, paragraphs, and commentary throughout the book that are merely filler.Questions I still had after reading the book include* What is the normal lacrosse season* How many games are played* What is the standard/expected practice schedule* Exactly what are the details to look for in equipment* Still did not understand the types of positions or plays* Still did not understand how all the penalties work, when they are called, on who, and how much license or league variations are expectedIf would recommend finding a different book than this.

Being a lifelong hockey player, I expected to easily understand this new sport that my son has started playing. I was wrong. This book has given me the basics to watch the game and has much more that I plan to come back to and learn about after the season.

This is a great resource for people who want to know more about the game. Our son started playing and I had many questions. It was not easy for me to follow all of the intricate rules. A coach recommended this book to me. It is basic. It is not a book I would read cover to cover but it has information for both boys and girls LAX.

The first book was more for indoor lacrosse but the 2nd edition is far more.I am a current player, and give this book a good big 5. Lacrosse for Dummies 2nd Edition is a great book for when you don't know a specific term or technique, you can just basically flip open a book and turn to the page for an excellent explanation. This book goes over not only the mens, but also the girls and the box game.It is also a MUST read for any coach because it comes with many drills and plays along with specific techniques to teach the developing, intermediate, and the advanced player.The 2nd edition is a COMPLETELY different book, everyone should disregard the old reviews.

The book is a little old, but I knew that buying it. That's why it was so cheap. The book is great and I am learning a lot about lacrosse from the book. I received the book fast and in-spite the age of the book, it is in great condition.

It's a decent book and there are a few nuggets of wisdom worth consideration, but it's my fault for not looking at the date. It was written in 1999 and doesn't reflect, at all, the modern, surveillance society that we live in post 9/11. Also, reading the book (I'm half way through it), I've yet to find the so-called "step by step guide" part. It's more of a list of a book of considerations, not a step by step guide per se. And I didn't care for the fact that 15 pages were wasted explaining why one might want to disappear. Did the author think that someone who was interested in doing that might need some politically correct justification for doing so? "Get to it!" is how I felt when reading the first 15 pages.

Most of this isn't relevant any longer. Some of the countries referenced don't even exist anymore and most of the legal advise is too dated as a result of 9-11.

Yes book has typos, not a handicap, but reflects hard, useful and extensive street smarts experience of government and procedures as well as detective, police and government inspector experience, extensive. Valuable and easy read for big picture and perspective, even for honest big picture people, and even though vernacular falls a bit to low-brow American in places. Still, at least five stars out of seven and VERY worthwhile reading for people who want to reduce costs and dangers here or abroad and know what the rules are and what foreign places are like. Doubt it will help real criminals much though, unless they are very smart and read much, much more. Guide mostly for legally protecting assets and staying out of trouble, plus maximizing privacy in the huge computer databases age. Covers databases few even know about, financial and travel tracking and is amazing revelation in those areas and overall. Does reveal how DIFFICULT it would be to 'disappear' -- bordering on impossible except for the VERY smart who are diligent and can cope with the consequences revealed in various ways. Experienced perspective!

This book was a pleasant read, despite one initial example of a sexual encounter to make the case for trying to run and hide what you have from a corrupt judge and your ex-wife. Could have done without that. But the author's other stories were clean and entertaining. The reader should remember though, that they were necessarily obtained from people who got CAUGHT! Further, it is dated. In the time since publication, many laws have changed, making the information irrelevant. Instead of plotting your emigration from the U.S. under questionable circumstances, the book can still be useful for learning about international living as an expatriate, or just vacationer.

Out of date but very interesting.
