About the Author

Ed Wilson attended Vanderbilt, the University of Edinburgh, and Yale University where he received the first Doctor of Fine Arts degree awarded by Yale. He has taught at Vanderbilt, Yale, Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Most recently he has been Executive Director of the Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center. He is the author or co-author of three of the most widely used college theater textbooks in the U. S. The tenth edition of his pioneer book, The Theater Experience was published in 2006 by McGraw-Hill. The sixth edition of his text Theater: The Lively Art (co-authored with Alvin Goldfarb) will be published by McGraw Hill in theDecember, 2006. The fourth edition of his theater history, Living Theatre: Histories of Theatre, (also co-authored with Alvin Goldfarb) will be published in December, 2006. He is also the editor of Shaw on Shakespeare, recently re-issued by Applause Books.He has produced plays on and off Broadway and served one season as the resident director of the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. He also produced a feature film, The Nashville Sound, recently made available on DVD. He is the author of two original plays, a farce, The Bettinger Prize, and a play about Ponce de Leon, Waterfall. He wrote the book and lyrics for a musical version of Great Expectations. All three have been given a series of successful readings in New York City and elsewhere. Great Expectations was given a full production for three weeks in February and March, 2006, at the Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, Virginia. He conceived the idea of a musical revue of the songs of Jerome Kern which had a well-received try-out production in the fall of 2004 at Catholic University in Washington, D. C. Ed has served a number of times on the Tony Nominating Committee and the Pulitzer Prize Drama Jury, most recently on the Pulitzer Jury in 2003. For twenty two years he was the theater critic of the Wall Street Journal. A long time member of the New York Drama Critics Circle, he was president of the Circle for several years. He is on the board of the John Golden Fund and was also for many years on the Board of the Theater Development Fund, of which he served as President.

Punked - Yep that is what I got by buying this stupid book. Being an ex intel, ex spec ops type of guy I thought this might be an interesting work. "How to become a mafia boss" - break the law... Ok I just gave away the only gem in the book - ooops... This is the level of BS you will find in this book. Complete donkey ka ka... Buy if you want a turd sitting on your book shelf. Better to just take the $10 and smoke it.

Not what I expected. Probably not fair that I Only gave it a 1 Star Rating. Might be Entertaining to a 3 year old. If I was the seller, After I got rid of my stock of this item, I would delete it from my inventory.

This book is one of the worst wastes of money I have ever seen. The information is, for the most part incomplete or, worse, incorrect. It reads like it was put together by a bunch of drunken frat boys who were bored and wanted to see how much they could get away with. It is definitely NOT for anyone under the age of 18 with chapters on "How to be a Porn star", "How to run scams on eBay", "How to break into a car", "How to pick pockets" and many others that are either illegal, immoral or insane. I love books, but this one is on its way to be recycled or used as tinder for the fireplace.

Not that forbidden or secret. Most likely solely researched on internet lists from Cracked and similar pages than re-written just enough to seem unique. Actually boring at times. Worth it if you ever find it in a super-saver discount bin. Still, amusing at times, well made, and attractive. Information is typically incomplete, obsolete, or wrong. Not for anyone seriously considering any of the books contents. At best it contains just enough information to get you in trouble. Could make a decent bathroom book.

If you're looking to be belittled and for condescending ridicule for buying this book you'll love it. Otherwise, it's a complete waste of money. The authors perspective is myopic and useless for most of the topics. A good thing I was only looking to fulfill some curiosity, but like the cat I got burned.

Forbidden Knowledge is a dumb yet entertaining compilation of various advice and tactics, mostly obsolete, delivered as a source of enjoyment rather than education, although some un-forbidden knowledge can certainly be gleaned from the text and context. The tone is set immediately with the first of the 101 tidbits of "knowledge" entitled "Tell If Your Neighbor Is A Zombie"...Really? I have had worse entertainment for a lot more money.

Dum... Not even worth the final "b" useless and inane. Sorry I wasted money and time. Going to sell on ebay hopefully recoup some of my pitiful losses. Guess it was supposed to be funny... ummm... Wasn't!

I'm fine with morally questionable things and actions and let me say that this book was okay. It had some interesting info sometimes, but honestly a lot of garbage too. Some of the things the book tries to pass off as "jokes" just make you roll your eyes. Somd of the less interesting things you can learn from this book include general pranks, pretty tame and boring if not just plain annoying to a reader.I do not recommend.

This book is first in a set of three. It is a wonderful trilogy set during the time of Jesus Christ, featuring a fictional family and their friends who encounter a new preacher... Who is he? Is he the Messiah? Some family members accept Him immediately and follow Him. Others question and take time. .Belief has consequences The book is an excellent view into the times of Christ. There's chapter notes at the end of each chapter with documentation, explanations of the customs and history. I learned about Pharisees,Sadduces, Zealots, Romans, but best of all this book brought to life the Bible stories I've heard all my life. My understanding has grown - of questions like: How could the crowds love him one day and call for his crucifixion the next? Why were some leaders of the Jews so virulent against this Man who taught his followers to turn the other cheek? The story is gripping, well woven and inspiring. I'm reading it now for the second time and loving it!

I really enjoyed Fishers of Men. Gerald N. Lund has a great balance of keeping you engaged and excited while also teaching you the history of the setting in all of is books. Fishers of Men is no different. I am definitely going to continue and read the whole series. I love the personal conflict each character goes through when the stranger who is called Jesus comes. Each of them have something that they must give up in order to follow Christ. By the first chapter you will be hooked by the suspense, but the full adventure doesn’t come full underway until you’re close toward the end and that can take some time getting too. The book itself is over 600 pages so it’s not a fast read. If you want a book that has adventure and excitement with a touch of romance while also enhancing your understanding of Christ in a personal way, this is the book for you! I would recommend it to anyone.

the kingdom and the crown is a fictional story about a family during the time of the ministry of Christ. Although it doesn't really give Christ a three dimensional character (in my opinion, since the author tried to keep his character in line with the bible) the rest of the characters are well written and the location, time frame, and customs have been heavily researched. Gerald Lund really did his homework so you do feel like your actually there.

This book puts you right in the middle of 30 AD. I do not care for "voluminous" books-but I cannot put this one down. It is suspenseful, and I can easily put myself in the middle of the times and places that have occurred anciently...looking forward to reading the other two volumes!

This was an engaging book which gave insight into what the Jewish people were experiencing at the time of Jesus' ministry and how difficult it might have been to accept Jesus as the messiah because of their misconceptions of how he would come and what he was there to accomplish. It helped with understanding of the times, the different factions in both the Jewish community and the Roman occupation. With events in story form with fictitional families and their stories, I gained insight into Jesus ministry and teachings as well.

This is an excellent novel based on the Four Gospels. Ironically, portraying fictional characters in the time of Christ makes the Bible stories more real. This is the first volume in the Kingdom & Crown series, and one should read them in order to appreciate the series fully.

Gerald Lund is the best writer I've ever read....I now have all his books and am impressed as an elderly man at his talents!! thank you!

I loved everything about this book. The best part is that I happened upon it almost by accident without realizing how fabulous the timing would turn out to be.A colleague introduced me to Jon's blog and I enjoyed his writing style so much I signed up for the newsletter. One of few that I enjoy reading. When I read the newsletter about this book I pre-ordered it. I was feeling stuck in my job - I loved the work but not the company. I was day dreaming about my ideal job - one where I loved not only the work, but the company I work for. I wasn't ready to jump, they paid me well and I worked from home, so I was looking for motivation. The book was delivered the week before a scheduled vacation, so I decided to wait until after vacation to start reading it.The day I got back from vacation I was laid off. Best blindside ever. I felt an enormous sense of relief, followed by terror and lots of self pity. Then back to relief. I spent the rest of the week taking calls from fabulous co-workers who were as shocked as I was and reconnecting with friends and colleagues from previous jobs. I also started reading this book. Every page helped to reinforce the fact that everything happens for a reason and that I am now on an exciting journey. I can't wait to see where this leads me, but I'm sure that where ever it is I have what I need to make it better than the last.

I found this book to be a wonderful and thoughtful overview on how to get to the important facts, understand critical concepts and deliver appropriate care. An an emergency physician in academics, I appreciated how this book was developed not for a academician who is working in a high resource setting and will often want to discuss every study behind the recommendations. This book is concise, too the point and offers both clear wording and visuals on how, with limited resources, to provide reasonable and safe analgesia/anesthesia. A great addition to the advanced or beginning practitioner in a underresourced setting, (especially when coming with skills learned in a high resource setting.).

A great resource for physicians or residents who do international work or work in resource-scarce areas. The author includes the types of things you often aren't taught otherwise and presents the material in a very easy-to-read format with well thought-out explanations. If you're planning to practice in such an area (be it volunteer work, a mission trip, an international elective, or otherwise) keep this book on your Kindle. It will come in handy.
