Three innovative mainstream comics artists whose freewheeling approach was influential on the movement—Will Eisner, Harvey Kurtzman, and Will Elder—are represented with pages they did for underground zines. This has greatly broadened my knowledge of comix and was delightful to read. I am not an art expert, but it seems quite scholarly, even heavy in some of the text. Almost 9" x 12". Of the 144 pages, nearly all have cartoons on them, first examples to go with the text, and then one or two pages to each of many artists with explanation of each artist's place.It is suggested that underground comics may have a major role in 20th century art, or at least in American art of the latter half of the century. That makes sense to me. Getting rid of repression is good for one's mental health.The impatient may want to skip the latter part of the text, and the faint of heart may stop before they get to Robert Williams and S. Clay Wilson.

I purchased this after seeing the art exhibit at the Chazen Art Museum on campus at University of Wisconsin. The exhibit is terrific. Who would guess that the underground comix I read in alternative press and in comic books would one day be treated as legitimate art? The book comes close to being at the exhibit and does a nice job of displaying the range of items in this exhibit. The show made me go out and by a copy of the Furry Freak Brothers Omnibus which includes all of the Brothers' stories under one cover. The Freak Brothers Omnibus

The underground comix of the 1960s and 1970s have always fascinated me for their rule-breaking, ground-breaking attitudes and counterculture artistic sensibilities. I've read more than a few of them over the years, although tracking them down, and understanding their context 20 to 30 years after their publication, has never been as easy task.That's partly why this oversized book from James Danky and Denis Kitchen is so welcome. It not only presents samples of the best underground art but also gives us a series of informative essays that put the whole underground comix scene in its historical context. With the art and text combined, the book shows how important these publications were in establishing comic books as a legitimate art form.Underground Classics the book actually got its start as an art exhibit assembled by Danky and Kitchen for the Chazen Museum of Art. As such, the bulk of this book is made up of gorgeous reproductions of original artwork by Robert Crumb, Bill Griffith, Howard Cruse, Gilbert Shelton, and dozens of other artists from the period. Each plate is accompanied by a paragraph of text that presents the history of the piece, the artist, the publication it came from, or the impact the strip had on the broader cultural movement.The essays--including an introduction by Jay Lynch, a retrospective by the editors, and an essay about the "wimmen's comix" movement by Trina Robbins--put the artwork in further perspective. As someone who is fairly new to comics I was skeptical when one of my friends suggested I look at this book. I was familiar with R. Crumb but I wasn't even alive when the Underground Comix movement was taking place. But as I started flipping through the art and reading the essays at the beginning, I found myself laughing out loud and nodding my head. It's pretty amazing how much the comics that were made forty years ago are still relevant today. They deal with sex and drugs, but also race, political organizing, money, the lameness of the establishment, all that good stuff. To me, one of the most interesting aspects of the book is the fact that all of the art is shown in its original state, so you get to see some of the artists' thought processes and it just feels more accessible and real.After hoarding my friend's copy for a while, I not only bought a copy for myself but I gave one to my parents who were actually around for the heyday of the underground movement. They both got all nostalgic about where they were when they first read Zap or Snarf magazine and it sparked some interesting conversations. I highly recommend this book for just about anyone who is interested in not only comics and art, but sarcasm, subversive humor, and fun.

This is a great chapter series for beginning to moderate readers. My 3rd grade daughter is always looking for chapter books that keep her interested and that are not to advanced for her AR testing. She (and I) find Hank so sweet and enduring. She really relates to his struggles and always trying to fit in. I highly recommend them!

I gave this book to my grandson who is dyslexic. He has struggled with reading for years, and this affected his self esteem. This series of books has as its main character a young boy who also is dyslexic but manages small triumphs in other areas. The series is written in a special font called “dyslexia” that is easier for dyslexic children to read. My grandson was hooked on the idea of Hank wanting a dog and trying to earn one by improving in school. This whole series is wonderful!

My first grader really enjoyed this book!! It contains a lot of words he doesn't yet know and he is an above average reader (although he doesn't love to read). I read a few lines out loud to him and then he reads the same lines back to me (which I just learned in a summer reading class I took with him this past, is very beneficial when the words are at least of moderate difficulty). This has worked well and I'm happy to say that he was so excited to move on to the next chapter that he would get the book off the shelf on his own, without prompts from me! This was our first real "chapter" book and this author made it an enjoyable and smooth transition!!

I saw Henry Winkler talking about these books. It really worked. My son was able to read it easier and enjoyed this book more than most books he tries to read. He reads it much faster because its easier for his eyes to focus and stay on the page. So impressive!!

My grandson has had difficulty reading so I bought 2 of the Hank books for him. He really enjoys this book and is reading so much better. Thank you Henry Winkler. These books are making a hugh difference in my grandson's self confidence and his ability to read. Because he is reading better, all of his school subjects are improving. I will continue to buy these books for him.

Reading these with my second grade grandson. I now he enjoys identifying with the character.

My grandson enjoyed the Hank series even though overall, he does not enjoy reading.

I was only expecting some great recipes and definitely got that, but Erin explains difference in proteins and carbs and fats, let’s you know when and what to eat for how you are training. I’m a total novice, and really bought the book for recipes and I am soooo happy with all the extra helpful info included!! Very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it!!

I am impressed with this cookbook! I know my way around the gym with no problem, but knowing the right, healthy foods to eat without it being boring has been my struggle. I've tried multiple recipes out of this cookbook over the past two weeks and love each one! They're not super complicated and call for seasonings I already have. It's a great cookbook for those looking for direction in nutrition and cooking healthy meals. Other reviews have mentioned more detail in how to calculate a calorie deficit, but for me, I having been searching for a cookbook without all that and just recipes with the calorie count and macros included. This has that. I'm pleasantly pleased! Erin Stern has answered what I've been looking for!

Great book. Explains a lot about the different diets for different goals in body building. The recipes are great. Great Book!!! There aren't many out there that explain how to cut, maintain, and bulk with recipes included. Awesome!

I started reading the book and studying the different ways these diets work, and now it makes total sense! I've been trying to lose weight and gain muscle, and the optimum way to do that is explained so well! I can't wait to try these recipes and get some good eats going!

Erin Stern's "Body Builder's Kitchen" is full of quick, easy, and FLAVORFUL recipes! All of them are broken down into their macros so you know just what you're getting. The book even tells you how to turn the recipes into Keto-friendly versions too. If you're looking to improve your eating habits but still want to enjoy a lot of flavor, then look no further than this cookbook. These recipes even make veggies taste good and still be healthy! I recommend it to all my friends at the gym who are looking to improve their eating habits.

I love Erin Stern so I thought I would try this. I am so picky and often don’t like cookbooks, as I am so picky. Especially recipes that are good for you. You have to say this book is great, and I love all the recipes. Definitely a great book

This has been one of my favorite cookbooks for meal prepping. I usually double the recipes so that I can spread them out throughout the week since I don’t have time to cook everyday. The breakfast hash is my absolute favorite and I actually really like eating it almost everyday! It’s that good to the point I don’t get sick of it! There’s a great overview of macros and various ways to achieve goals in the beginning of the book and even a couple meal plans to follow based on your goals. So many great meal options and it’s definitely been my go to over the last few months!!

The book has easy recipes with ingredients you normally keep in your pantry. The way the book is organized is fantastic. The substitutions are realistic. Portion sizes for the macro level are reasonable. Overall this is a great book for people who want to meal prep and want to just look at some recipes & pick out something easy to go with for the week, while also keeping it healthy. Definitely recommend.

Ordered 2 box sets, one for a gift, one for my own son. No duplicates like other reviews said, or upside down pages that I’ve seen. I wasn’t sure how “advanced” the books were when I ordered, although only 5 page long chapters, I was surprised that it was like real chapter books. It’s a bit advanced for my struggling 6 year old.

Great deal on these books, especially since they are $5 each at the book store. Easy chapter books with a few pictures (none in color). My son loves the topic and they are not extremely hard to read (with the exception of the Pokemon names). My son began reading these the summer between 1st and 2nd grades. Have passed them alone to his 2nd grade friends who are enjoying them just as much.

Christmas gift for my 8 year old son and he’s a Pokemon fan. Not sure who will be more excited...Mom seeing him read more or him excited that it’s something Pokemon. Either way I believe this will be a win-win.

These books were bought as a gift for a seven year old who loves Pokemon and he LOVED these chapter books! So important to get kids to read and the key to enjoying the reading is a book you love to read! Win-Win!!!

Gave this to my son for his 8th birthday. They are based on episodes he has seen, and just at (or below) his reading level, so he is loving to read them. He’s in 2nd grade.

My 8 yr old daughter loves Pokemon. She is enjoying reading these books....I'm happy I don't have to read them to her because they are super boring to me.

My son loves Pokemon, but these were difficult to read because of the difficult character names. Also, there is no real plot, story line or moral meaning. There are better books out there. These got returned.

Book set is missing book #1 "Journey to the Orange Islands"; instead got 2 of "The Four-Star Challenge" book. Returned the first set and the second set arrived missing the same book.

There is only today." She tells the story of her family's four year journey of paying off over $120,000 in debt. Their combined student loans, credit card debts, and assorted debts were a burden; they decided to make some changes and get it done.Readers or radio listeners familiar with Dave Ramsey will recognize his attitude and principles in Lowe's book. She looked to his Total Money Makeover for inspiration. She and her husband are avid fans of Ramsey, and even appeared on his show to declare "We're debt free!" Lowe doesn't necessarily introduce new ideas for paying off debt in Slaying the Debt Dragon, but it's refreshing to hear her perspective and gather some of her money-saving tips.Like Ramsey, she tries to keep it simple. "It isn't that complex. Spend less than you make so you can whack away incrementally at the debt dragon with all you've got." The biggest key (again, no surprise) is making a budget and keeping it. She's a fan of the envelope system, and using cash only, especially at the grocery store and eating out.She explicitly ties in freedom from debt to freedom to live a fuller life as a Christian. "We had lost a sense of contentment. . . . We had lost the bigger picture of the adventure God wanted to take us on through our story. Living day to day, paying bill after bill, our lives had been locked into a boring status quo existence." I like this perspective. It's not about making money and saving money. It's all about making space in your life and your lifestyle to follow and obey God.Slaying the Debt Dragon is a very personal, honest book, but I wish she had given a bit more perspective on the income side. Her husband is a lawyer, so I assume he was making a decent income. On the other hand, she mentioned that he picked up some side jobs, but she doesn't go into what they were or what kind of hours those demanded. $120 thousand is certainly a ton of debt, but did they pay it off while earning a salary of $40K a year, or $200K a year? I was just curious about that detail of the story. Whatever their income, their story is still inspiring and informative. She doesn't make paying off mounds of debt sound easy, but she definitely makes it sound doable.Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

I expected different information to help instead of a collection of other's information like Dave Ramsey.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am ready to slay my own debt dragon! I loved Cherie's quips and stories and am excited to try her strategies!

This book is great! While telling this family's experience about conquering their massive debt, they also keep it real by asking the reader to make it their own and fight the fight of getting back in financial shape with some wise advice.

Great book! Must read for anyone with a family who wants to cut debt or just save a little money. Easy read and written well. Cherie's writing is very witty and realistic. Real life scenarios and practical advice. Love it!!!!!!!! I recommend this to all my friends and family!
